“I know my days are numbered,” Michael Caine told The Sun. The 84-year-old actor has given up alcohol and embraced a healthy lifestyle.
All this just to see his grandchildren grow up.
What else did one of Britain’s greatest actors say in this moving interview?
“I’m scared of cancer,” Michael Caine revealed.
In an interview with The Sun this weekend, Michael Caine admitted that his greatest fear was dying from cancer. So the actor took charge of himself: he quit drinking alcohol and adopted a diet free of carcinogenic substances, sugar, salt, and gluten. In the process, he lost almost 13 kilograms. However, the actor hasn’t lost his sense of humor. During the interview, he joked: “I’ll probably die talking to you, but I lost those 13 kilograms because I want to see my grandchildren grow up. I have three of them: six-year-old twins and a seven-year-old boy. I’d like to see him turn 17,” Caine explained. The actor spoke warmly of his wife, Shakira, who is 14 years his junior, who helped him quit risky drinking. “Without her, I would have been dead a long time ago. There were times when I drank a bottle of vodka a day and smoked several packs of cigarettes,” he explained.
Michael Caine ‘s acting credits
include over 115 films. He is considered the eleventh highest-grossing actor in film history. In 2000, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his outstanding artistic contribution to the film industry.
Although he first appeared on screen in 1955, Caine shows no signs of slowing down. “When the jobs stop coming, that’s when I’ll retire. The film industry has to give up on me, because I won’t do it,” Caine said. His latest film, “The Good Old Fashioned Man,” in which he stars alongside Morgan Freeman and Alan Arkin, will be released in April.
Michael Cain has won two Oscars – for Woody Allen’s “Hannah and Her Sisters” (1987) and “The Cider House Rules” (1999), as well as three Golden Globes: for “Educating Rita” (1983), “Jack the Ripper” (1989), and “Little Voice” (1998). He is known to a wider audience for Christopher Nolan’s films, such as “The Prestige,” “Interstellar,” “Inception,” and the Batman trilogy, where he played Alfred, a friend and employee of Bruce Wayne (played by Christian Bale), as well as the comedy “Miss Congeniality” with Sandra Bullock.
