A woman who had decided to commit suicide was dramatically saved thanks to a net stretched under a bridge in Ponsonnas, in the Isère province.
She was eventually found on a nearby road, the newspaper La Dépêche reported .
On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the newspaper La Dépêche reported on an event bordering on a miracle.
On Monday, September 1, a woman in her 40s jumped from a bridge in Ponsonnas, Isère, with the intention of committing suicide. Despite the terrifying 103-meter fall, she survived thanks to a safety net installed under the bridge. This net is used by a company specializing in bungee jumping and the facility is one of the most famous places for this activity in Europe. The net, placed several meters above the ground, is usually used to protect jumpers after a jump.
The woman, in her 40s, whose identity has not been revealed because she was not carrying any identification documents, managed to escape the barrier. However, when the level of the Drac River, which flows through the area, rose, she became stuck in the water. A driver, who was attracted by her umbrella lying on the side of the road, noticed her, according to our colleagues, and alerted the emergency services. Firefighters later found her on a nearby road. She refused to give her name and was taken to Grenoble University Hospital for further examination.
Suicide in Isère: a planned act
Investigators were able to confirm her intentions thanks to a letter found in the vehicle she drove to the scene of the crime. As reported by the newspaper “Le Progrès “, the car, registered in the Ardèche region, did not belong to her. The content of the letter left no doubt about her intentions, although the motives for the act remain unclear at this stage.
