A small Italian town is in shock after the death of 15-year-old Matilda Ferrari, a rising figure skating star, who died Monday morning.

A teenager was hit by a cement mixer while walking to school in Val Rendena, Trento.

Ferrari was crossing State Route 239 near her home, heading toward a bus stop, when a truck belonging to Cunaccia Construction
struck her in a crosswalk. Authorities are investigating, but initial reports suggest the driver may have had a green light at the time of the crash.

Emergency crews arrived within minutes. Paramedics,
firefighters, and doctors worked with a dispatched helicopter to save her. Despite their efforts,
Ferrari succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her parents arrived shortly after, faced with the devastating news.

The truck driver is receiving medical attention and will be questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
