She’s gaining a huge fan base and her students love her!

Learning math on social media… why not?

At 28, this young math teacher is one of the most famous in France. She teaches at a secondary school in Nancy and is also a social media influencer.

With over 360,000 followers on TikTok, Estelle Kollar is revolutionizing the way we teach a subject that’s often underused. She creates short videos to help struggling students. She says, “It’s absolutely crazy, it makes my head spin.”

She describes her content as follows: “I use humor to talk about situations we encounter at school, and I also post educational content.” Her videos average 70,000 views, with several having surpassed the million mark.

“Wonderwoman” is primarily aimed at high school students. The teacher explains, “I don’t create a lot of content for high school students because it’s so complex. There’s often a long train of thought behind a problem, and it’s difficult to explain it in less than a minute.”

Estelle Kollar doesn’t just publish videos about mathematics. She also doesn’t hesitate to champion causes close to her heart, such as combating bullying in schools or the role of women in science. The teacher also shares content that combines mathematics with historical anecdotes. She says, “I love discovering mathematics wherever I travel. In my videos, I share little tidbits that we don’t have time for in class because we’re too academic.”

The journey began during the first lockdown.
In March 2020, the young teacher started her YouTube channel. She explains, “I wanted to support my students, especially those who were struggling. My videos replaced our videoconferencing classes.” A few months later, she launched TikTok, offering shorter content, and noticed a difference in her students’ performance. Estelle Kollar draws inspiration from her students when creating her videos.

She explains, “My students often inspire me. When I see them struggling with something, I think it’s worth making a TikTok video about it.” She continues, “I focus on one topic, not the entire chapter. It’s just one point, so it fits well on TikTok, where everything has to be fast because people want to swipe.” In any case, you could say her teaching method is modern!
