The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued a warning yesterday about strong winds that will affect residents of Poland in the coming days. Northern and eastern regions are most at risk.
Firefighters have been busy since early morning. The situation is dangerous in Warmia and Mazury, Pomerania, Podlasie, and the Lublin region. Wind gusts have reached up to 100 km/h.
From early morning until 1:30 p.m., firefighters in Warmia and Mazury responded to over 650 calls. The reports continue to pour in. Firefighters from the State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Departments (OSP) from virtually every district are involved in the rescue operations, reports Junior Brigadier Grzegorz Różański from the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Olsztyn.
Firefighters are primarily tasked with removing fallen trees and broken branches from roads and passageways, as well as securing roofs. Unfortunately, there are also casualties from the powerful winds.

In Ełk County, near the town of Kobyliny, a fallen tree fell on a passing passenger car. A woman was injured and taken to hospital. A similar incident occurred in Puszczykowo in Greater Poland. There, one person was also injured after a tree fell on a car.
In the Olsztyn district in Barczewo, the facade of a primary school building was torn off, and in Olsztyn, the wind tore photovoltaic panels off the District Office building, firefighters reported.
Firefighters from Augustów in the Podlasie region also reported disturbing news this morning. There, just after 10:00 a.m. in the town of Lipsk on Nowodworska Street, a steel chimney collapsed onto a residential building. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Downed power lines caused power outages in some areas. Firefighters delivered generators to two residential buildings in Warmia and Mazury where this occurred.
These buildings are inhabited by people whose health condition requires permanent connection to oxygen supply devices, firefighters inform.
In Karnków in the Lipno district, rail traffic on the Toruń-Sierpc route was suspended due to leaning power poles above the railway line.
