But at that same moment the horse on the bank let out a piercing neigh. His eyes flashed, his muscles tensed – and he threw himself into the river.

He swam with all his might, slicing the waves with his hooves. His movements were full of determination that froze the blood in the veins of anyone who saw him.

The owner of the horse, standing nearby, noticed what was happening. At first with surprise, then with horror. Realizing that the animal was rushing to save the drowning child, he ran to the shore and without thinking, threw himself into the water after him.

Together the man and the animal reached the drowning girl. The horse held her afloat, while the man pulled her out of the water and carried her to the shore.

Meanwhile, the car in which the man had arrived was already racing along the dusty road. He didn’t even turn around.

When the girl was pulled ashore, she was still alive. Weak, frightened, but alive. And only then did it become clear that it was the chestnut horse that had first thrown itself into the fight against death.
