Lately, my mom had strange bruises, but both she and my wife kept saying they didn’t know where they came from. I set up a camera — and what I later saw shocked me.

Recently, I had started noticing odd things. My mother seemed distant — quiet, withdrawn, often lost in her thoughts. But the most troubling part was the bruises that appeared from time to time on her hands and neck, like small bumps.

I couldn’t help but ask. Each time she smiled shyly, cast a quick glance at my wife, and answered vaguely: “Probably age… the skin is thin, bruises just appear.” But whenever I suggested going to the doctor together, she immediately brushed it off and firmly refused.

Over time, my worry only grew. Between her and my wife, there seemed to be some secret sign — strange looks I couldn’t interpret. My heart clenched at the thought: could my wife be hurting my mom? I couldn’t believe my eyes when I watched the footage. In the video, my mom… was making those bruises herself with the help of makeup. My heart sank, and I didn’t know how to react. Without warning, I went into her room, determined to find out the truth.

At first, she tried to evade, said unclear things, and avoided the topic. But when I showed her the recording, she gave in.

She admitted: she was afraid I would forget her. She thought that with my wife I had a new life, and that she was old, unnecessary. She just wanted to feel my attention and care.

We sat down, and I explained calmly but firmly: she will always have her place in my life. I told her that I love her, that I value every moment we spend together, and that her fears do not justify such actions.

My mom, seeing my sincerity, broke into tears. She realized she was wrong, that with her actions she cast doubt on our trust and even, unintentionally, harmed my relationship with my wife.

We talked for a long time, and gradually her inner insecurities began to fade. Now, understanding and trust have been restored between us, and I am sure: something like this will never happen again.
