He was with them on what was arguably one of the worst days of their lives.
Graham Craker, a bodyguard to the British royal family, has died at the age of 77, according to a report in The Sun on Sunday, April 6.
Princes Harry and William are undoubtedly mourning the man who was with them throughout their childhood, including the day they learned of the death of their mother, Diana Spencer.

Proof of his unwavering bond with the young princes: Graham Craker attended William and Kate’s wedding in 2011, ten years after his retirement. A feeling that likely arose in the days following their mother’s death on August 31, 1997. In 2017, the former bodyguard recalled to the New York Post the day the boys learned the terrible news: “You try to cope with it as best you can, but it really hits you. The hardest part was probably meeting William the next morning. I saw him walking his dog outside, and I went up to him and said, ‘I’m so sorry to hear this sad news.'” William replied with great sadness, “Thank you.” Diana’s two sons lost a significant figure in childhood and are still struggling with the pain of the illness that afflicted their father, Charles III.
Graham Craker’s Death: The Bodyguard Who Comforted Young Princes William and Harry at Diana’s Funeral
Graham Craker was also chosen to accompany Princess Diana’s body for the final time at her funeral on September 6, 1997. He recalled this touching moment in a 2017 interview: “I was standing at the back of the hearse, and William looked up and recognized me. I looked at him and nodded. I think he took comfort in knowing I was with his mother on her final journey.” This message echoes Prince Harry’s words from his memoir, “The Substitute” (2023): “The driver [of the rifle] had to pull over a few times so the bodyguard could get out and remove the flowers from the windscreen. The bodyguard was Graham. Willy and I loved him dearly. We always called him ‘Crackers’ [referring to Graham’s crackers, ed.] We thought it was hilarious.” So he was more than just an employee for the two young children who became princes.
