he little girl pointed at me and said: “You’re the man from the photo in my mom’s wallet!” And a minute later, I was face to face with a woman I was sure I had never met before…

I had come to a quiet seaside town for a few days — just to change the scenery, clear my head. My sister said the air was perfect, the waves were beautiful, and there were hardly any tourists.

That morning, while jogging through the sleepy streets, someone suddenly called out:

— Wait! Stop! I know you! — a voice shouted.

A little girl, around eight years old, stood in front of me. Before I could ask anything, she ran up and grabbed my hand.

— Please come with me. I have to show you to my mom! She knows you!

I gently freed myself and asked:

— Wait… how do you know me?

The girl looked me straight in the eyes:

— Your photo is in my mom’s wallet. I see it every day!

I froze. That explanation made no sense to me.

— What’s your mom’s name?

— Julia!

The name sounded familiar, but I couldn’t connect it to any face. She tugged at my hand again:

— Come on, hurry!

We arrived at a neat little house. She flung open the door, ran inside, and shouted:

— Mom! He’s here! The man from your photo!

I stood in the doorway, and soon she returned with a woman. When she saw me, she froze. Her eyes widened, her hand covered her mouth. A second later, she began to cry…

I couldn’t say a word. My heart was pounding. When she finally spoke, her voice was trembling:

— This can’t be real… How is this possible?..

The little girl pointed at me and said: “You’re the man from the photo in my mom’s wallet!”

The man stood still, staring at her face. Her features seemed vaguely familiar — and then the memory hit him like a bolt of lightning.

— Julia?.. Is that you?

She nodded slightly, lowering her gaze.

— I thought you were gone forever — his voice wavered.

— I wasn’t given a chance… — she said softly.

He looked at her in disbelief. After all these years — there she was. And next to her — a little girl whose face suddenly seemed far too familiar…

— You just left. No note, no explanation.

The little girl pointed at me and said: “You’re the man from the photo in my mom’s wallet!”

— I wanted to tell you everything, but… my parents were against it. They believed you were only with me for money. Said you were a nobody. That you were using me. And I… I was scared. I was only 22.

He was silent. His head was spinning.

— So you just disappeared?

She nodded, holding back tears:

— Yes. But I loved you. I looked at your photo every day. And Miranda…

The little girl pointed at me and said: “You’re the man from the photo in my mom’s wallet!”

He looked at the girl. And suddenly, everything made sense. The eyes. The chin. The smile.

He slowly knelt down and said:

— Hi, Miranda…

The girl hesitated, then gave a shy smile and hugged him. And Julia stood in the doorway, hands covering her face, trembling with emotion.

So many years have passed… but maybe fate decided that not everything is lost.
