Some moments stay in your memory forever. One of them was my first encounter with my dream dress: cream satin, delicate lace, a slight sheen of the material. I couldn’t believe it was mine.
A week before the wedding, I unexpectedly found my future mother-in-law by the wardrobe with my dress. She was standing with her phone, taking pictures.
“Oh, honey,” she said with a forced smile. “I just wanted to remember how beautiful it is!”
I was surprised, but I didn’t say anything. Margaret was always a person full of emotions. Jake said that he tried to be close, although sometimes he did it too intensely.
And the wedding day came. The church, candles, music, emotions. I was walking down the aisle when I heard the guests whispering. I turned around and saw Margaret. She was wearing a dress that was incredibly similar to mine. Almost the same cut, almost the same lace.
I hesitated for a moment. But Jake squeezed my hand tightly and whispered:
“Everything’s fine. Look at me. This is our day.”
He took a step forward and said calmly:
“Mom, you’ve always been a charmer. But today is her special day. Let her shine.”
His words were calm and respectful. The room fell silent, and then there was a gentle applause. Margaret was a little embarrassed, but she smiled and sat down in her seat.
The ceremony continued. We exchanged vows. Everything was exactly as I had dreamed—sincere, warm, and loving.
Later, back at the hotel, I asked:
“Did you know she’d wear a dress similar to mine?”
“I suspected. Remember, she showed me her old photo album? I saw that she’d chosen a dress similar to yours. I decided not to argue, just to be there to help you stay in a good mood if necessary.”
And he really was there. Sometimes you don’t need big words or scenes. Just one look is enough to understand that you are with someone you can rely on.
Since then, Małgorzata has become a bit more reserved in showing concern. And the breaks in our conversations have stopped being tense – they have simply become… calm.
