NHL star Johnny Gaudreau, 31, and his brother, Matthew, were tragically killed on Thursday, August 29, after being struck by a car while riding bikes on Stumpy Lane in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m.

The Columbus Blue Jackets, Johnny’s team, expressed their devastation on X, saying, “Johnny was not only a great hockey player, but more significantly a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.” They highlighted Johnny’s passion for the game and his profound impact on the team and sport, noting that his joy was felt by everyone who watched him play.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman also shared his condolences, calling Johnny one of the League’s “brightest young stars” during his 11 seasons in the NHL. He extended heartfelt sympathies to Johnny’s wife Meredith, their children Noa and Johnny, and the rest of the Gaudreau family.

Reports indicate that the driver involved in the accident stayed at the scene, and authorities suspect the driver was under the influence.

This heartbreaking news comes as a significant loss to the hockey community, with many expressing their grief and asking for prayers for the Gaudreau family.
