I slowly opened the final section and began reading aloud.
There were clauses giving full control over all my finances and property after the wedding, as well as requirements that deprived me of the right to have my own opinions and make decisions.
When I finished reading, the lawyer said calmly, “This is illegal. Do not sign.” I set the pen aside and called my fiancé. I asked just one question: “Do you know about all this?” At first, he didn’t understand, then he said he was already on his way to me.

When he arrived and saw the situation, he got angry. His parents didn’t know what to say and froze in place.
Jack told them directly, “Until you apologize for this action, don’t you dare come to the wedding.” They tried to justify themselves, saying they only wanted to protect Jack in the worst-case scenario, but in the end, they admitted their mistake.
As we walked toward the altar, I felt a confidence I had never felt before. I said calmly and firmly, “I agree.”
