Chaos and a burning car after accident on I-75 in the Miami area
The accident caused long delays, panic among drivers, and a massive response from emergency services.
Miami, Florida – A serious traffic accident on Interstate 75 (I-75) in southwest Miami-Dade County caused moments of chaos, panic, and a vehicle engulfed in flames on Tuesday afternoon. The incident, which involved at least three vehicles, left several people injured and paralyzed traffic in both directions for several hours.
According to the preliminary report from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the accident occurred shortly after 3:00 p.m. near the exit for Miami Gardens Drive. Witnesses said that one of the cars involved lost control, struck the median barrier, and was then hit by another vehicle traveling at high speed, causing one of the cars to catch fire almost immediately.

“
“It was like an explosion. There was a loud bang, and then we saw flames. People started getting out of their cars and running, some of them screaming,” said Ana Torres, a driver who witnessed the incident from the opposite lane.
Scenes of desperation and a rapid response
Videos recorded by witnesses show columns of black smoke rising above the highway, while several bystanders tried to help the occupants of the vehicles before the fire spread. Some managed to pull a man out of a car seconds before it became completely engulfed in flames.
Miami-Dade County firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and managed to control the fire in less than 20 minutes. At least four people were injured, two of them seriously, and were airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those affected.
Traffic paralyzed and detours
I-75 was temporarily closed in both directions, causing a traffic jam that stretched for more than 10 miles. Alternate routes were available via US-27 and the Turnpike, although traffic flow was extremely slow for several hours.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) issued an alert through its digital platforms, recommending that drivers avoid the area and use traffic apps for alternate routes. Normal traffic flow was not fully restored until after 8:00 p.m.

Ongoing Investigation
The FHP (Florida Highway Patrol) confirmed that it has launched an investigation to determine the exact causes of the accident. Excessive speed, distracted driving, or even mechanical failure are all being considered as possible contributing factors to the tragedy.
Meanwhile, authorities reminded drivers of the importance of maintaining a safe distance between vehicles, respecting speed limits, and paying attention to road conditions, especially in high-traffic areas like I-75.
A Close Call
Despite the severity of the accident and the shocking image of the burning vehicle, emergency responders emphasized that, thanks to their quick response, there were no fatalities. However, those with serious injuries remain under medical observation.
The scene, marked by smoke, sirens, and the sound of helicopters, left a lasting impression of fear and tension among drivers, serving as a stark reminder of how fragile life can be in a matter of seconds.
