In the middle of the celebration, I threw my father-in-law’s plate onto the floor — everyone froze. No one knew what was hidden behind his smile… except me.
The party was a success. Laughter, clinking glasses, lively chatter — everything seemed carefree. My father-in-law shone brighter than anyone: the life of the party, witty, charming, like a true showman. Everyone admired him. Everyone… except me.
My gaze was different — cold, sharp. I watched his every move, every word spoken with fake kindness.
At one point, something inside me snapped. I stood up, walked to the table, and hurled his plate to the ground with all my strength. The loud crash silenced the laughter. The air grew thick with heavy silence.
Everyone stared at me in shock, my wife ran to me, whispering through tears:
— What are you doing? Have you lost your mind?
If only they knew… if only someone understood why I can’t stand to see him smile anymore.
What I found out about him defies all reason.
Continuation in the first comment.

— You don’t understand, — I hissed through my teeth to my wife. — You have no idea what he’s done.
My father-in-law looked at me with a heavy, fearful gaze — more fear than anger. But in front of everyone else, he kept playing the part of the offended victim, sighing theatrically and shaking his head.
— What are you talking about? — he said softly, pretending not to understand.

— Do you want me to say it in front of everyone? — I stepped closer. — Or will you admit that you didn’t just lose money at the casino, but also our house? That you signed papers putting us — your daughter and me — as “guarantors”?
A murmur rippled through the room like electricity. My wife went pale, her eyes wide.
— That’s… not true?.. — she whispered.

My father-in-law sank into his chair, his face turning gray.
— I… I didn’t think they’d come after you, — he muttered. — I wanted to fix it… I just needed time…
I stared at him silently — the man I once trusted like a father.
— Time, — I said quietly. — It runs out for everyone. — And I turned and walked out of the room to the sound of shattered silence.
