The husband left his pregnant wife with his mother to dig up potatoes while he went on vacation: but what happened one day in the garden shocked the neighbors
The man had long dreamed of the sea. When his wife became pregnant and doctors forbade her to fly, she naively believed her husband would stay by her side. But one day he said coldly:
— The tickets are already bought, why waste the money? I’ll go alone, and in the meantime you can go to my mother’s village and help her with the chores.

The woman didn’t know what to say. She was six months pregnant, her back hurt with the slightest bend, but she didn’t dare argue.
The husband went on holiday, and she was sent to the mother-in-law – to a village where the toilet was behind the shed, the water was only cold, and the only “rest” was working in the garden beds.
Every morning the mother-in-law cooked soup, placed a bowl in front of her and said curtly:
— Work first – only then you eat.
The pregnant woman went out to the field and spent long hours in the soil. At night she dreamed of the sea – not because she had ever been there, but because her husband had gone. He sent her photos from the beach. Short captions: “I’m resting, just like you said.”
That day the wife was digging potatoes. She called him – but he didn’t answer.

But what happened that day in the garden shocked the neighbors
One day in the garden she suddenly felt dizzy. She dropped to her knees in the mud, gasping for air. The mother-in-law came out into the yard, looked down at her and said dryly:
— You’re pregnant, not sick. No time to sit around, the potatoes won’t dig themselves up.
The woman tried to get up, but her strength failed her. And then it happened.
A neighbor passing by saw the pregnant woman fall face-first into the ground. She screamed, called for help. Neighbors rushed over, lifted the woman up and carried her to a car.

At the hospital the doctors said something terrible: just a little longer – and the baby could not have been saved.
Since then, in the village, everyone avoided the mother-in-law’s house. No one could forgive her for driving the pregnant woman to such misery. And the husband, when he returned from the sea, found his wife in the hospital ward – with eyes in which love no longer remained.
