The winter day was quiet and cold. The driver followed his usual route – everything seemed as always. But suddenly, something unusual caught his attention: right on the tracks stood a pack of wolves.
They didn’t run away, they didn’t hide in the forest, as predators usually do when they see a train. On the contrary – the wolves seemed to deliberately block the way. Their amber eyes glowed in the headlights, and they howled, one after another, so loud and long that the driver was frightened.
Instinctively, he hit the brakes. The wheels screeched, the train rolled a few more meters on inertia, and one of the wolves barely avoided the wheels. Yet even then, the animals did not back down. They stood on the tracks, preventing the steel machine from moving forward.
At first, the driver thought the wolves had gone mad, or that they were simply hungry and wanted to attack. Then he squinted, trying to see why the wolves were really standing on the tracks.

And then he noticed: right there, in the white snow, was something strange and unusual
On the tracks lay a man in white clothing, motionless, as if unconscious.
The driver rushed out. The icy air hit his face. The wolves did not touch him – on the contrary, they stepped aside, allowing him to approach the man lying there.
It seemed as if the animals understood: this man was important to them, and it was for him that they had stopped the train.
Leaning down, the driver felt for a pulse. The man was alive but barely breathing. He tried to revive him, rubbing his hands, checking his breathing. The injured man opened his eyes with difficulty, his lips trembling from the cold, but he managed to whisper a few words:
— They… saved me…

It turned out that someone had indeed tried to kill him. Several people had beaten him and thrown him directly onto the tracks, hoping that the next train would finish him off.
But the wolves, as if sensing the danger, had gathered in a pack and stood in the way, protecting him until the very end.
The driver called for help over the radio. Until the rescuers arrived, he covered the injured man with everything he could find in the cabin – an old blanket and his own jacket. The wolves stayed nearby, watching every movement carefully.
When the rescuers finally came to take the man away, the pack slowly retreated into the forest. Their mission was complete.
