“The Silence of the Twins”

Lili and Lana were born on a quiet summer morning. Their birth brought not only happiness to the family, but also hope to a community where smiles had long since faded.

They were twins, born with the same heartbeat but different personalities. Lili was strict and focused, and Lana dreamy and confessional. But they had one thing in common: the feeling that they had not been born by accident. They often heard from their mother:

  • You are a gift sent from heaven.

Time passed, but something strange was happening around them. When one was sad, the other suddenly fell silent. When one was happy, spring suddenly opened in the other’s eyes. They talked without words.

One day, a strange noise was heard in the village. One of the houses suddenly burst into flames. People ran around in panic, and Lili, only nine years old, ran inside and saved the little child. At that moment, Lana felt an inexplicable, sharp pain in her heart.

When Lily came out, her face smeared with soot and coughing from the smoke, everyone shouted for joy. But Lana, the sister, was silent. A week later, she wrote a letter and put it under Lily’s pillow:

“You came out of the fire, but I carry that fire inside me. We were always connected by a thread, invisible but alive. When you are in danger, I, the other half, am lost. I promised myself that I would always feel that something was wrong, I would feel it first.”

From that day on, they began to write diaries, one for the other. No one read them, but they knew that the most honest truth in the world was hidden in the silence of siblings.
