Xerxes was a service dog, trained in a special cynological unit. From the first day of service, he and his handler formed a harmonious duo.
Their cooperation was based on trust, devotion and daily presence – they became not only partners, but true friends.
Unfortunately, life can be cruel. Xerxes’ owner died tragically in a car accident while on his way to visit his grandparents. His death was a huge blow to his family, friends and everyone who knew him – including his loyal dog.

On the day of the funeral, his colleagues decided to take Xerxes to the farewell ceremony. They believed that the dog also had the right to say goodbye to his master. During the ceremony, a photo was taken that moved thousands of Internet users – it shows the dog sitting in silence next to the coffin, with his head bowed and sadness in his eyes.

A family member said: “It was a tragedy that no one expected. The sight of the dog at the coffin was both heartbreaking and beautiful – it showed how deep the bond between a human and an animal can be.” A colleague added: “It was his last tribute. He had to be there.”
This story reminds us that animals also experience loss and grief. Their pain can be silent, but incredibly real. Xerxes will forever remain a symbol of unconditional love, loyalty, and attachment.
