Next to them was the bride’s dog — a large brown dog. They had been inseparable since her teenage years, and on this day the bride wanted him to be by her side.

Throughout the entire ceremony, the dog behaved perfectly: it sat calmly, didn’t disturb anyone, just watched everything as if it understood how important this day was for its owner.

But as soon as the bride and groom took a step forward to walk toward the altar, everything suddenly changed.

The dog tensed up, jumped to its feet, and began barking loudly. At first, everyone thought it had just gotten scared or overly excited about something. The bride tried to calm it down, softly called its name, bent down to it, and stroked it.

But the dog wouldn’t listen. It became even more agitated.

It jumped up, grabbed the hem of the bride’s dress with its teeth, and started pulling her backward. The barking grew louder, sharper, almost hysterical. People in the hall exchanged looks; some began to get annoyed, others whispered in fear. The groom tried to pull the dog away, but it seemed to notice nothing around it and kept dragging the bride away from the altar.

A dull cracking sound was heard.

At first, it was barely noticeable, as if coming from far away. Then another one, louder. The floor beneath their feet trembled slightly, and at that moment the dog growled and pulled even harder, practically dragging the bride backward.

And then everything happened within seconds.

The ground shook so violently that people couldn’t stay on their feet. From the dome came a deafening crash, as if something massive was breaking. People screamed, some rushed toward the exit.

And right above the spot where the bride and groom had been standing just a second earlier, part of the old dome collapsed.

Stones, dust, debris — everything came crashing down. Chaos filled the church. Some people cried, others tried to escape, while some simply stood frozen in shock, unable to understand what had just happened.

And the bride… she stood aside, holding her dress, which was still clenched in the dog’s teeth.

The dog was breathing heavily, but it was no longer barking. It simply looked at her.

And only then did everyone understand. A very strong earthquake had occurred. In other places, as it was later reported, many people were injured. Buildings collapsed, and many were trapped under the rubble.

If it hadn’t been for the dog, the bride and groom would have remained standing right under the dome and might not have survived.
