One evening my five-year-old son hugged me and whispered in my ear: “When you’re at work, a lady comes out of there, and she and dad play hospital,” he said, pointing downward 😲

I didn’t say anything, and the next day I installed cameras all over the house. That evening three police cars were standing at our doorstep 😢

I returned home after a three-day business trip. It was already dark outside, and the clock on the car dashboard showed 21:05. I knew my son usually went to bed around nine, but I hoped I could at least hug him and talk to him for a few minutes.

The house was quiet.

My husband was sitting in the living room in front of the TV and didn’t even turn his head when I walked in.

— You’re early, — he only said.

I nodded and first went to my son’s room.

He was already wearing his pajamas with green dinosaurs and was sitting on the bed hugging his teddy bear. When he saw me, his eyes lit up.

— Mommy!

He ran toward me, and I held him tightly. He smelled of children’s shampoo and warm milk.

— You’re back!

— Of course I’m back, — I smiled. — How could I be without you.

We sat on the bed for a long time. He told me how he had been drawing at kindergarten, how they fed the pigeons, and how the teacher let them play hide-and-seek.

Then I tucked him under the blanket and began telling him a story about a little hedgehog who was trying to find his way home.

As always before going to sleep, he began asking questions.

— Mom, why is the grass green?

— Because it likes the sun.

— And why do some doggies live on the street?

— Because they don’t have a home yet.

He thought for a moment and then suddenly became serious.

And asked a question that made everything inside me turn cold.

He quietly pointed his finger downward, toward the floor.

— Mom… why does the lady come out from under the bed and play hospital with dad?

At first I even smiled, thinking he was joking.

— What lady, son?

He looked at me as if surprised that I didn’t understand.

— She comes when you’re not at home. She lives down there.

He pointed downward again. One floor below was our bedroom — mine and my husband’s.

— She comes out from there… from dad’s bed.

My heart skipped a beat.

— And dad said it’s a secret, — he added quietly. — If I tell, he’ll punish me.

I didn’t say anything then. I simply kissed his forehead and stroked his hair. But inside me something tightened coldly.

That night I barely slept. My son’s words echoed in my head again and again.

In the morning, when my husband left for work, I went to an electronics store. Two hours later cameras had been installed throughout the house: in the living room, in the kitchen, in the hallway… and in our bedroom.

I told no one anything. I waited for three days.

And on the third evening, when I turned on the recording, my hands began to shake. At 14:37 the front door opened. My husband let a woman into the house. But that wasn’t the worst part yet.

They quickly went into the bedroom. I expected them to simply close the door. But then something happened that I did not expect. 😨😱

My husband moved the bed aside. Under the carpet there was a hatch. He opened it, and they both went down.

I froze. I had lived in that house for almost eight years — and I didn’t even know there was a basement under our bedroom.

I zoomed in on the image from another camera I had managed to install in the bedroom.

After a few minutes the hatch opened again. And I saw light. In the basement there was an entire room set up.

A table. Medical lamps. Metal instruments. And people.

At first I didn’t understand what was happening. But then I heard their conversation. They were discussing money. And then everything became clear.

My husband and his lover were performing illegal operations in the basement.

People came there secretly. Without documents. Without licenses.

At that moment my hands began to tremble. I immediately called the police. Two hours later three police cars were standing in front of our house.

When the basement door was forced open, several people were inside. An improvised operating room. Medical equipment. And the very woman my son had spoken about.

One police officer, examining the room, quietly said to me:

— If you hadn’t contacted us today… no one knows how all this would have ended.
