The morning in the park was calm and warm. Veronika had just finished her run, stopped near a side path, and was trying to catch her breath. The workout had been tough but satisfying. Her hair was tied in a high ponytail, a thin gold chain around her neck, a sports watch on her wrist. She loved these rare days off when she could simply be alone.

The path was almost empty. The damp air after the night rain smelled of leaves and freshness. Veronika was about to head toward the exit when engines suddenly roared behind her.

Three motorcycles shot out from around the bend and stopped right in front of her. Three muscular men jumped off. Cheap tracksuits, tattoos on their arms and necks, arrogant smiles.

The leader stepped forward and looked her up and down.

— Well, beauty, walking alone? — he drawled with a smirk.

— That phone must be expensive. Hand it over before you drop it.

Veronika stayed silent. Her face was serious, but tension was visible in her eyes.

The second guy circled her from the side.

— Look how stylish she is. Nice watch. The chain’s shining. Looks like there’s something worth taking.

— Don’t shake, we’ll be gentle, — the third added with a quiet laugh.

They stood too close, blocking her way back.

— You understand there’s no one here to help you, right? — the leader said. — Hand everything over calmly and walk away.

— Or what? — Veronika asked calmly, trying not to let her voice tremble.

The men exchanged glances.

— Or it’ll get unpleasant, — one of them replied. — We don’t like it when people argue with us.

They laughed, talked among themselves, discussed her phone, her sneakers, her chain. One even reached a hand closer to her shoulder, as if testing how scared she was.

All they saw was a lone, defenseless woman after a workout.

The leader stepped closer again and leaned toward her.

— So, are you handing it over nicely, or do we have to explain?

Veronika looked at him carefully. No scream, no panic. Just tension in her eyes and cold focus.

— Do you really think this is a good idea? — she asked quietly.

The men looked at each other and laughed.

— Did you hear that? She’s trying to scare us.

— Girl, do you even know who you’re talking to?

— There’s no one here. Just us and you.

Veronika suddenly smiled.

— Exactly. Just you and me.

One of them froze.

— Why are you smiling?

— Because you have no idea what you’ve just gotten yourselves into, — she replied.

The leader stepped forward irritably.

— Stop acting tough. The phone and the chain. Now.

And at that moment, from around the bend of the path, out of the shadow of the trees, two large men slowly stepped forward. They were her bodyguards. Tall, dressed in black, with cold expressions. They moved calmly, without hurry, but there was strength in their stride.

The thugs had no idea they had just tried to rob the daughter of one of the richest men.

The guys turned around.

— And who are they?

One of the bodyguards stepped closer and said shortly:

— Problem?

— Not anymore, — she replied calmly.
