During my husband’s funeral, I received a message from him: “It’s Nick. I’m alive. Don’t trust our children.” What I discovered next left me speechless.
After 42 years of marriage, losing my husband, Nick, was a terrible shock for me. On the day of the funeral, it was pouring rain, and the weather was dreadful.
Our children and all his friends were there to say their final goodbyes. I was standing there, in front of his grave, lost in thought, trying to make sense of it all. That’s when my phone vibrated. I didn’t want to look, but the second message made me jump.
The message said: “Darling, it’s Nick. I’m not dead. Don’t trust our children.”
I froze, completely stunned. It was indeed my husband’s number, but how was this possible? Who could have sent such a message at that exact moment, and why? I thought it was some kind of sick joke.
Our children were there, behind me, their eyes filled with tears. Still, I decided not to say anything to them. After the ceremony, I went home, and, exhausted, I asked my children to leave me alone.
When they left, I couldn’t resist checking the number again. It was still Nick’s. I called, but no one answered. A few seconds later, I received another message: “Go to my friend Michael’s. He’ll explain everything.”
Without thinking twice, I decided to go to his house. When he opened the door, my heart nearly stopped. Behind him stood Nick, alive, very much alive, looking at me with a somewhat embarrassed expression. I couldn’t believe it.
They invited me in, and then they told me everything. Why Nick had been hiding from our children and why he had faked his death. I was shocked to learn the truth…
